Weekend Preview: The Top 7 Meets To Watch This Weekend

- - -

When: September 25

Where: Carlisle HS Course -- Carlisle, Pennsylvania

Will we see a new course record?

That's the No. 1 question percolating in this installment of the Carlisle Invitational. With the likes of Larry Josh Edwards, the No. 3 ranked athlete in the MileSplit50, and CJ Singleton set to perform on Saturday, the chances are high.

Both runners are highly-touted. And yet, with University's Edwards, we have an athlete that could feasibly go after the 2016 record of 14:47, which was set by Carlisle's Noah Affolder.

The course has changed at least once in the last decade -- the former record of 15:17, accomplished by Coatesville's Kyle Dawson in 2006, for example, is different than the current format -- but we do know that Affolder's mark was achieved on the course we'll see on Saturday.

Edwards, an Oregon commit, opened with a performance of 15:04 for 5K on Sept. 10 and owns a personal best of 15:00 for the distance. Singleton, meanwhile, owns a personal best of 15:30 for 5K. The Notre Dame recruit is considered one of the top runners in Pennsylvania.

Teams from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia are set to compete at the event. Centennial's (MD) Antonio Camacho-Bucks, Severna Park's (MD) James Glebocki and McLean's (VA) Xavier Jemison are also runners to watch out for.

Meanwhile, the girls race will feature Loudoun Valley (VA) and top seed Ava Gordon, who enters with the only time under 18 minutes. The meet record, which was set by Marlee Starliper in 2017, stands at 16:50.

Gordon is a top-rated recruit and will open her season here. She finished seventh at the XC Town USA Meet of Champions, a national-level meet, in November of last year.
