Fear The Cheese(man)

Abby Faith Cheeseman made a statement on Thursday at the Meet in the Middle Invitational.

The freshman from The Webb School clocked a career best 17:16.79 for 5K, clocking a Tennessee No. 1, a U.S. No. 5 result and the 29th-fastest freshmen performance all-time.

And it was her debut.

Perhaps this shouldn't be surprising. Cheeseman is the younger sister of two-time Foot Locker Nationals qualifier Carter Cheeseman, who finished his high school career across Tennessee and Texas with four state titles. Cheeseman currently competes for Notre Dame.

We also shouldn't say this is the first we've seen of Abby Faith, either.

The ninth-grader won a TSSAA Division 2 championship as an eighth-grader in 2020.

But nonetheless, it's an electric start and a sign that more is to come from Cheeseman -- she's entered in next week's Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Alabama, in fact.
