There's a battle brewing in the state of Utah for the state's top team, and another competitor has just entered the ring.

Mountain View.

The Mighty Bruin competed at the 2021 Timpanogos XC Invitational against No. 15 ranked American Fork (UT).

The American Fork Cavemen were led by Jayden Fitzgarrald, who took the overall 5K win in 15:22.20. The Bruins followed up with Liam Heninger placing third while Nate Jaster continued to hold it down for the Cavemen placing fifth.

Mountain View would then place two more runners in front of American Fork's third and all five in just ahead of American Fork's fifth. For overall team score, it broke down as follows: Mountain View had runners place third, eighth, 10th, 24th and 32nd while American Fork placed first, fifth, 17th, 26th, and 35th.

Both team's averages were comparable, with the Mighty Bruin running 15:53 and the Caveman averaging 15:55; Mountain View just had a better overall 1-5 split of 53 seconds to American Forks 1:02.

These teams are going to be must-watch moving forward in Utah. As mentioned in the preseason rankings, American Fork is a team that always finds a way to get the job done when it counts.
