Zack Truitt's 2021 Adidas Boost Boston Games Experience

Day 1

I had my High School graduation from Landmark Christian School at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, so we had to rush to catch our flight at 12:45!  We made it into Boston around 3:00 P.M. and headed straight to the hotel, which was in Copley Square in Boston, right beside the Track Adidas built for this event. After we arrived, we unpacked, and I got to go on a shakeout run with Ethan Strand from Alabama, Ben Shearer from Texas, and Ben Greene from Maine.

Then we were able to eat dinner, and, along with the other competitors, I received tons of gear, including two pairs of shoes and two different singlets to choose from. At dinner, I was excited to sit at a table with Adidas Pro athletes Bryce Hoppel, Eric Avila, and Sam Prakel. It was awesome just to get to talk to them about running and college. After dinner, we had a meeting and then got ready to race the next morning!

Day Two:

I woke up early and went down to breakfast in the dome room. I had a bagel with jelly and also an apple. After this, I put my new singlet on and got ready to race. Adidas did amazing with the gear - I love it!  We got on a shuttle to head to the course around 8 a.m.

At the starting line just before the gun,

They chose to keep the course at an undisclosed location to keep the spectators to a minimum, just athletes and parents. We warmed up around 9:15 and got ready to race at 10:00 a.m. The course was an out-and-back road race in the Watertown district. The race went out kind of slow, around 2:08-2:09, but it's hard to gauge since it was a road mile. At the turnaround, I had a really bad turn, so I lost the front pack, but I tried my best to catch back up. At the finish, I came in 6th overall at 4:16 for the full Mile, which I am happy with, for a road mile.

After the race, we were able to watch the pros race, and I got to cool down with Eric Avila, Clayton Murphy, and Robby Andrews. After all the races were over, we rode back to the Hotel, and I had a chance to explore Boston with my family for the rest of the day. The experience was fantastic, and I thank Adidas and the Adidas Boost Boston Games for inviting me to this incredible, and COVID-safe, event. I would also like to thank Milesplit GA and Mr. Bruce Taylor for giving me the opportunity to submit this article.

I will never forget the friends I made and this opportunity I was given - It was amazing!
