VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA -- Avery Lewis, competing for Run U Express at The VA Showcase over the weekend, accomplished a rather surprising feat on Sunday.

The Philadelphia-native won the 200 meter dash from the first heat.

Lewis, 15, became the third girl over the 2020-2021 season to break 24 seconds in the one-lap race. However, another interesting point: She's just a freshman.

The Friends' Central athlete stopped the clock at 23.91 to earn the victory. She became just the sixth freshmen girl since the turn of the century to run a sub-24 second time for 200 meters, according to the MileSplit database.

And she's now the second-fastest freshmen indoors in the 200m in Pennsylvania history, just trailing Kouri Peace, who ran 23.74 in 2016. Lewis' mark is tied for fourth in Pennsylvania indoor history.
