The Top Six Boys Races To Watch At The VA Showcase

Chasing History In the 300m And 500m

The boys 300 meter invitational will be a chase for that elusive sub-33 time.

There are a few select athletes with the potential to secure that performance, which would enter into the top 10 high school marks all-time. Thomas Worthington's Justin Braun and IMG's Jaylen Slade seem as the likeliest candidates to make that happen, while Woodbridge Freedom's Jaylen Barringer, L.C. Bird's Jayson Ward and Terry Parker's Aaron Bell aren't that far behind.

History has told us that top marks in the 300m require a little bit of patience. That final curve will prove crucial for anyone looking to break that barrier.

Meanwhile, the 500m could honestly be more of a wide-open race -- but one that's even more exciting. The seed times here are somewhat untested, but there is a lot of talent in the mix, including the likes of Ward, Braun, Bullis School's Luke Schroeder, IMG's Ashton Schwartzman and Paul Dunbar's Mario Paul

Texas-based Arden Hallpike could be a sleeper, as will be Miami Carol City's Mekhi Gammons, who ran 1:05.19 last year. The meet record stands at 1:01.88 -- that mark, a US No. 2 all-time performance, was accomplished in 2017 by Tyrese Cooper.
