Mehlhorn And Langon Lead Crash Running Invite At OCP

On Sunday high school athletes, looking for a fast time to finish out the season, hit the quick Ocean County Park course for the first Crash Running High School XC Invitational. Star juniors Marco Langon and Caroline Mehlhorn led the event running 15:49 and 18:17. 

While the races were high school aged all athletes were running unattached at the club event.

Marco Langon, out of Bridgewater-Raritan, achieved his third win of the season with a time of 15:49. Langon also won the Skyland Conference Delaware Division and Central Jersey Shootout back in October.

While Langon finished 28 seconds ahead of second place Timmy Beans at 16:17 in his head to head race he also out ran the first boys race of the day won by Jacob Cobb, a junior at West Deptford, clocked at 15:56.  

Seven of the top eight times of the meet came from that first race led by Cobb. George Andrus, third overall for the meet, was second at 16:02, Caleb Clevenger 16:08, Kevin Harvey 16:11, Brian Theobald 16:14, Connor Kinch 16:15, and Kieran Donnelly 16:16. 


On the girls side Caroline Mehlhorn, out of Montgomery HS, led the way with an 18:17 to lead the race by 20 seconds over Aubrey Pierontoni, at sophomore at Kingsway, who finished second with 18:37.

Mehlhorn was coming off a 14th place finish at the RunningLane National Cross Country Championships in Huntsville, Alabama where she ran 17:48 at the John Hunt Running Park course. Mehlhorn finished the season with five wins including NJSIAA Central Group 4 Sectional and Skyland Conference titles.

After Mehlhorn and Pierontoni there was a great battle for third between Laurel Kurtz, 18:50, Rosemary Shay, 18:51, Lauren Hutson, 18:56, and Grace Vives 18:56. The top six all running under 19 minutes.
