Border Wars Canceled Following Governor's Announcement

Utah Governor Gary Herbert gave a somber announcement for residents of the state late on Sunday.

The Governor said that due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Utah, he was issuing a new state emergency, a statewide mask mandate, restrictions on social gatherings, and expanded testing.

Within the decision, Herbert addressed high school sports and said that all club sports would be canceled for two weeks. Because Border Wars falls within this time frame, and because of how late in the year it is, there is no chance of postponement for the cross country meet, which was set to be held on Nov. 21 in St. George.

The Utah High School Activites Association held its state championships on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22, giving athletes in the state one last big meet. This past Saturday, runners competed at the Border Wars qualifier in Spanish Fork.
