Florida No. 1 Ranked Gabe Montague Picks Furman


Satellite state champion Gabe Montague announced his commitment to Furman University early on Tuesday.

The No. 1 ranked Florida distance athlete of the class of 2021 is one of the first boys recruits of the season to join the Furman Paladins. 

"Furman checked off all the boxes," Montague told Bob Cooke, better known as "Doctor Bob" in the Florida running community via Brevard's Sports Network show. 


Montague details what he's looking for in a college post race at Wickham Jamboree

Montague kicked off his senior season with a 15:43 performance a the Wickham Jamboree and has since brought that time down to a 15:14 PR to win the Viera Invitational. 

The senior, who will look to defend his 2A state title in November, holds a PR of 9:06 for the 3200m, 4:16 for the 1600m, and 1:58.66 for the 800m. 

This weekend, Montague and a few others of the MileSplit 50 No. 9 nationally ranked team, will go after a sub nine-minute 3200m performance on his home track under the lights.
