Old Bridge Star Nick Medeiros Commits to Georgetown

Nick Medeiros, one of the premier half milers in the country, has announced his college commitment.

The winner is Georgetown!

Medeiros also considered Virginia Tech, Penn State, UPenn, and Columbia.

The Old Bridge star said Georgetown was the best fit for him, academically and athletically.

"I decided to choose Georgetown because I feel that here I will become very successful on and off of the track,'' said Medeiros. "I know that Coach (Brandon) Bonsey and all the guys on the team will make me really work hard as well. After talking with a few runners on the team and checking out the campus, I knew that I wanted to become a Hoya!''

Medeiros is coming off the best track and field campaign of his career last indoor season, highlighted by a PR of 1:52.76 to finish second at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze. That time was not only NJ#2, but also US#7 for the season.

In addition to his fast half mile time, Medeiros also ran a NJ#7 2:36.43 in the 1000m last winter, and he owns a 400 PR of 49.09 that he ran as a sophomore to place second at the GMC Outdoor Championships.

That's not all.

Medeiros has captured two GMC titles, and one sectional title in the 800, and he's also a very strong XC runner. He dropped a PR of 16:33 to place 12th to help Old Bridge place second at the Central Jersey, Group 4 XC championships, and ran a Holmdel PR of 17:01 at the Meet of Champions last fall.

Medeiros has some big goals he'd like to achieve before he heads off to Georgetown.

"This year, I would love to have a solid cross country season,'' said Medeiros. "My goal is also to enter the winter track season with a lot of strength training under my belt. I'd love to win my first MOC title, and for outdoors my goal is to go sub 1:50!''

With his great quarter speed, added strength from this XC season, mental toughness, and sheer desire, Medeiros has all the tools needed to crack the magical 1:50 barrier.
