Sydney Nowicki Signs With Syracuse University

Despite the uncertainty of the Season, Seniors across New York State are continuing their College Search. One such Senior has chosen to stick close to home. Sydney Nowicki (Lockport) signed with Syracuse University on Wednesday. She'll be joining such recent alumni as Sarah Connelly (Mt. Sinai '20) and transfer Amanda Vestri (Webster Thomas '17).

Nowicki, a standout in Section 6, most recently finished 6th in the New York Indoor State Meet in the 1000m, and also carries an 8th place finish in the 1500m Outdoors. Nowicki was also a Cross Nationals Qualifier in 2017.

The commitment rolls in just as the NCAA D1 Council has extended the recruiting dead period until January 1st.  The move eliminates any in-person recruiting, limiting it to only phone and correspondence. Nowicki is the second major female signing of the year, as Brooke Rauber (Tully) earlier signed with NC State. Given the volatile nature of the season, commitments are expected to occur earlier in the year than is typical.
