Justin Robinson needed just one race in 2020 to set a new World Athletics best at 400 meters, and he made history in the process.

That moment came on Saturday in an American Track League series race in Marietta, Georgia, as the Hazelwood West (MO) High School graduate and Arizona State University signee produced a new world lead in 44.91 seconds, beating Michael Cherry, a World Championship gold medalist in the relays.

With the performance, Robinson became the only high school boy in history to secure two sub-45 second races at 400m. He now sits US No. 2 and US No. 3 all-time at the distance.

Only Darrell Robinson, who ran 44.69 seconds in 1982, has gone faster as a high school athlete. Robinson also owns the senior class and 18-year-old age group record.

And he's just days away from beginning his freshman season at Arizona State University.

It was an incredible display -- and another reminder -- of the Olympic-level talent from Robinson, who as a high school junior in 2019 went 44.84 seconds at the Great Southwest Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Robinson was profiled by Milesplit in May of this year. You can read the story here
