PSAC Suspends Sports Through The Fall Season

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) will not have a fall sports season in 2020. The conference's board of directors voted on Tuesday to "suspend all mandated conference athletic events and championships through the fall semester," per a press release that came out Wednesday.

During the fall, there will be no cross country in the PSAC. This decision comes in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The PSAC is exploring the possibility of having fall sports competition in the spring.

"It has become apparent that the safe conduct of sports under the guidelines of social distancing is untenable for our members," PSAC commissioner Steve Murray said in the release. "We cannot place our student-athletes at greater risk than the general student body. Despite our planning and collective efforts, it has become clear that we are not able to do so."

The PSAC is a Division II conference that is made up of many state universities in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The PSAC has 18 member schools including Bloomsburg University, California University of Pennsylvania, Clarion University, East Stroudsburg University, Edinboro University, Gannon University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown University, Lock Haven University, Mansfield University, Mercyhurst University, Millersville University, The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Seton Hill University, Shepherd University, Shippensburg University, Slippery Rock University and West Chester University.
