Price-Whitehead Grabs PA Gatorade Track & Field POY Honors

After a terrific indoor season, Jaden Price-Whitehead of Upper Dublin was named Pennsylvania Gatorade boys' track and field player of the year. The winners were announced in each state on Monday morning.

After there was no outdoor season amid the coronavirus pandemic, Gatorade used indoor performances to select its track and field winners this year. Marlee Starliper won the girls' player of the year award, as announced last week.

It was quite the remarkable junior indoor campaign for Price-Whitehead, who impressed in both the jumps and the sprints.

Price-Whitehead soared in the long jump, leaping 25 feet even at the TFCAofGP Meet of Champions. That jump is No. 2 all-time in PA state history, behind only national record holder Dion Bentley. It was also the best jump of the indoor season in the U.S. by nearly a half a foot. Price-Whitehead won the indoor state title -- the first of his career in the long jump at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships at Penn State with a leap of 24-3.25. He was the top seed in the long jump for New Balance Nationals Indoor before the meet was cancelled.

Price-Whitehead was also third in the triple jump at indoor states and seventh in the 60 meter dash. He leapt a season best of 47-10.25 in the triple and clocked a season best of 6.98 in the 60.

Price-Whitehead will have one more high school year to continue to chase records. Watch his 25 foot long jump performance from the winter below.
