Turner and Russin Go Head to Head in a 400 Time Trial

Amaya Turner (Wheeler) and Maddie Russin (Crown Point) are still keeping that competitive nature despite not having a real season to race each other. On May 30th, they trained in a 400 meter time trial along with Russin's soon to be teammate at IU, Emily Sonderman. The girls ran a fast trial, resulting in Turner coming across in 54.5 seconds, with Russin about a second behind and Sonderman not much further behind Russin.

All three girls would have likely been strong contenders this year in the 800. Russin was the runner-up last year from the 1st heat, running a 2:08 solo. Turner and Sonderman, while still new to the 800 have made some noise early on. Turner broke the indoor 400 and 800 record earlier back in February. Sonderman was in the same race as Turner finishing just 2 seconds behind her.

Amaya Turner ran a 55.36 indoors this year to break the indoor 400 state record. Sonderman ran the 400 at state last year, crossing in 57.81 for 15th place. Russin has run a 56.83 at a tri-meet back in April of 2019.

Watch the full trial above to see the speed these girls have found in what can be seen as an extended off-season in track this year.
