The Desert Dream Last Hurrah Invitational in San Tan Valley, Arizona is beginning to have some national-type flare.
More than a handful of incredible athletes from across the country are expected to compete over three days at the meet -- held at Poston Butte High School -- with a chance to lay down some official, and serious, performances.
Fairview's (CO) Gavin Schurr, Tahoma's (WA) Anthony Smith, Oaks Christian's (CA) Jahzara Richardson, Eastside Catholic's (WA) Kate Jendrezak and Valor Christian's (CO) Camille Peisner are sprinters who bring some fast -- and ever-improving -- credentials.
Then, a ridiculous amount of heavy-hitting distance talent is expected to compete in various events from the 1,600m to the 3,200m, including three-time NXN All-American and U20 Pan American XC champ Brooke Rauber (Tully, NY), two-time Foot Locker Nationals All-American Abby Vanderkooi, multiple All-American athletes Grace Ping and Lauren Ping, along with Ella Borsheim, Julia David Smith, Ava Parekh, Lexy Halladay, Mia Barnett, Carlee Hansen and Riley Stewart. A total of 20 girls who have broken 5 minutes in the mile will look to author personal records.

The action isn't limited to the track, either.
One of the country's top boys throwers, Aidan Elbettar, will look for a 60-plus and 200-foot combination in the shot put and discus, while Westlake High's (CA) Paige Sommers, fresh off a clearance of 14-feet in the pole vault in a meet in California last week, with aspirations of going after the national record of 14-8.
