On This Day: MIC Championships Shine


One year ago today, arguably the best conference in the state held their yearly championships at Warren Central in Indianapolis. A strong case can be made for the MIC to be the best in the state, last season athletes from the MIC held 14 of the 32 top marks for each event, 7 for each gender. 

WATCH: Above, check out North Central freshman, Ramiah Elliott run down nearly the entire field to win in 56.59 in the 400m finals. Elliott topped Warren Central's Mikeshia Covington at line by just .38 of a second to win her first MIC title. She went on to win two state individual titles in the 200 and the 400. Covington now competes for Iowa Central College in Ford Dodge, IA.

Below, JT Hodges of Pike won the 1600 in 4:27.64, beating Carmel's Thomas Gastineau by just about 1 second. Hodge went on to help the Red Devils take 3rd in the 4x800m relay at the state meet, anchoring the team with a 1:53 split. Pike was one of two teams to medal in the event from the first heat. Hodges now competes for Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. Gastineau now competes for Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN.
