TBT: Abby Lynch Runs 4:59/2:15 Double at Zionsville Invite

Leading from the gun of the 1600, Brownsburg sophomore Abby Lynch came out to Zionsville High School ready to show it was going to be her night on the track in 2019. For a majority of the race, Lynch had Emma Tate from West Lafayette right on her heels looking like she would strike at any moment. But in the bell lap, Lynch showed off her soccer speed, gapping Tate and lengthening her stride as she went. Lynch crossed in what would be her first off 4, sub-5 minute 1600m races of the season, winning by 5 seconds.

But Abby Lynch wasn't done for the night there. She still had the 800 later in the evening, something that tends to be common for the distance crew during the regular season.

Once again, starting out in lane 1, Lynch took off prepared to make this race hers. She immediately left the pack, with just Ella Robinson of Zionsville attempting to hang on. In the final 100 meter stretchm Lynch once again showed off that pure speed to storm down the track to win in 2:15.35.

Abby Lynch went on to run both the 1600 and 800 at the 2019 IHSAA State Meet, taking 2nd in the 1600 and 4th in the fastest 800m final in the state meet history. Earlier this fall, Lynch announced she has already made her college decision despite being a junior and verbally committed to the University of Illinois, where she will have the opportunity to continue playing soccer and running track.
