UIL Cancels Remainder Of 2020 Track And Field Season

The Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) has amended it's status on the remaining spring sports seasons. This afternoon, it officially moved the status from suspended to terminated the 2020 spring sports seasons.

The call came hours after Texas Governor Greg Abbott's announcement around noon today that all Texas schools would be closed for the remainder of the school year.

This the third amendment from the UIL on the 2020 season. The March 29th date was initially set when the Coronaviurs (COVID-19) began suspending school districts. A second amendment moved the date to May 4th prior to today's final decision was handed down.

UIL Athletic Directors and officials had several plans to resume the sports and enable state championship competitions to resume and conclude. However, throughout the time and with all of their amendments, they were steadfast that they would follow the guidance and mandates by state and federal legislations.

Governor Abbott's decision was the determining factor making all possible avenues to be obsolete.

Several Spring sports were looking to resume seasons they had already begun. Boys Basketball was hoping to play the Championship Round of their state tournament that would enable them to crown the 2020 State Champion. Girls Basketball had just completed their championships.

The track and field season will now be incomplete without district, area, regional and state championships in the record books.
