Flashback Friday: Symone Mason Sprints to US No. 1 in 100m


At the 2017 Bob Hayes Invitational, Miami Southridge (FL) High School graduate Symone Mason ran the nation's fastest 100m time with an effort of 11.24 seconds. She also stepped on to the track to run the 200m and set a personal best of 23.00 at the same meet.

That was a sign of things to come.

Mason, who later signed with the University of Miami, became the FHSAA Class 4A state champion and was a silver medalist at the USATF U20 National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 100m.

She then competed on an international stage for the United States at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championship. She earned the bronze medal in the 100m with a time of 11.62 seconds and the silver medal in the 200m with a 23.42.
