South Carolina governor Henry McMaster ordered a closure of all public schools effective immediately until the end of the month due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic prompting the cancellation of one of the state's premier track and field meets.

SCTCCCA president Chris White said via text message that the Coaches Classic that was to be held March 28 will not be rescheduled.

"I will be e-mailing the coaches association tonight canceling the Coaches Classic meet on 3/28 instead of postponing," he said in the text.

When asked if the track and field season could be salvaged in April, White said everyone is in wait and see mode.

"Haven't heard anything unfortunately. I'd love to know something at this point."

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases inside the state rose to 28 on Sunday.

White said he's under the impression that the conference call is still on.

"I think they are still meeting tomorrow, so hopefully we'll hear something then."
