757 Weekend Roundup: 10/12 Edition

Ocean Lakes, Maury and Princess Anne runners provided the top local highlights at last weekend's Albemarle invitational, held at Panorama Farms in Earlysville.

For the girls', Aniya Mosley claimed the runner-up position to lead the Lady Dolphins to a team title over a host of teams from around the state, including Western Albemarle and Stone Bridge. Mosley, just a sophomore, led a quintet of fellow 10th graders which included Austin Heft (21st - 20:06), Elise Richardson (22nd - 20:07), Maggie Reed (25th - 20:14) and Ryan Smith (33rd - 20:27).

Maury's Maeve Stiles was fourth (18:32), while Logan Warden of Princess Anne placed ninth. Both the Commodore and Cavalier teams finished in the top-10.

The Ocean Lakes boys' got stuck in a race with two-time defending national champion Loudoun Valley, but placed ninth overall. Harrison Ladd of the Dolphins paced the 757 individuals with a 19th place effort, followed by Princess Anne's Jackson Cinnamond (25th) and Ocean Lakes' Owen Lipps (41st).

Princess Anne placed tenth among the boys' teams.

Nansemond-Suffolk Invitational

The Kellam girls, behind the 1-2 finish of Lily Schlossberg and Alyssa Campbell, won the N-SA invite in Suffolk. Madison Roche was fourth for the Knights, helping the team outpace the hosts as well as Norfolk Academy.

Schlossberg won with a time of 19:09.

Southeastern District Champions

Hickory and Grassfield were the top teams to come from the five Southeastern District meets, held from early September through October 8.

Grassfield won the boys with 47 points, as the scoring went from 1-10 points per meet. Hickory was second with 45.

But Hickory topped Grassfield 48-41 to win the girls' side of the competition.

Great Bridge was third for boys and girls.

Hampton Roads Top-15 Teams and Individuals

Ocean Lakes now has grabbed the top spots for both the boys' and girls' team rankings, although the girls lead is a tenuous one, with both the Dolphins and Kellam winning separate invitationals last weekend. In the MileStat.com virtual scores, Kellam is ahead by four points, but the top-five girls for Ocean Lakes average 3.2 seconds faster than the Knights. They will be the #4 and #5 team seeds this week at this Saturday's MileStat.com XC Invitational.

However, on the individual girls' side, it was Ocean Lakes' Mosley who made a Herculean jump up the rankings, vaulting from tenth to first on the strength of her winning 18:11 performance which nudged past Maury's Stiles' best time by two ticks. The two will lock horns in the varsity "A" race at Pole Green Park this weekend, so a clear leader will emerge.

Ladd maintains his top spot among the boys, with Cinnamond serving as the bounciest leap frogger, bumping back on to the board at the #4 position.
