1 Yr Ago: Cherry Anchors Mixed 4x4 To World Record & Gold

DOHA - 2013 Oscar Smith alum, Michael Cherry anchored Team USA Sunday to a world record and world championship gold medal in the mixed 4x4. Their time of 3:09.34 broke the previous record by over three seconds.

In this event, which consists of two women and two men in any order, the American quartet elected to go M-F-F-M with Cherry anchoring. Will London led the team off, Allyson Felix went second, Courtney Okolo ran third and Cherry ran fourth.

This was the first relay title for Team USA at Worlds and the 12th World Gold for Allyson Felix who passed Usain Bolt's record with this win.

Cherry is also in the relay pool for the men's 4x4 as well.

Michael Cherry is used to big moments though so this big performance is no big surprise for those that have followed his career.

Cherry previously set the high school national record for the 300 (33.05) at Boo Williams just minutes after having run 1:03 in the 500. That wasn't enough for him though as he returned about 30 minutes later to split 46.1 on the 4x4.

After high school he ran at both Florida State and LSU where he would win multiple NCAA titles.

He is also a multiple time high school national champion.
