Tale Of Two Graysons Revisited

Brookhaven Boys

Northwest Rankin Boys

Well it was Varsity Boys race time at the JPS meet on Tuesday at Choctaw and two friendly rivals were facing off in the 5K race. Grayson Childress, Brookhaven and Grayson Edwards, Northwest Rankin have been friendly rivals since they started running in high school cross country. We covered them a few years ago when they were top ranked in their year group. See it here. Now they were going to run against each other. This does not happen very much as Brookhaven is in Class 5A will Northwest Rankin is in Class 6A. Last year Grayson Edwards

The day was HOT like 100 degrees but luck for the racers the humidity was down (at least for Mississippi) so racing conditions were pretty good. But they were off on the 5K race. At 1.4 miles Grayson Chlidress had a short lead over Grayson Edwards but it was still a long way to the finish.

Childress on the left and Edwards on the right.

They would end up close to each other until the last sprint up the famed finish hill at Choctaw Trail. At the end it was Grayson Childress winning the race in 16:50.76.

Grayson Edwards was not far back in 17:01.23.

At the end it was still a good friendly rival type of race.
