The guys from Mountain View (CO) finished third at last year's Nike Cross Nationals Southwest Region meet, but that was with star runner Easton Allred finishing runner-up to Cole Sprout. Allred transferred to Corner Canyon (UT) this year, so the Golden Eagles only returned three of their top seven from the 2018 squad. That doesn't appear to have fazed this team at all, however, as several guys have stepped in to fill the gaps left by Allred and the Class of 2019. One of those guys is junior Harrison Witt, who has been the teams lead runner at both the Vista Nation XC 2-Mile Invitational and Battle Mountain Husky Invitational.
Despite the Vista Nation XC 2-Mile Invitational only being two miles, the team ran well, beating MileSplit50 No. 7 ranked Dakota Ridge High School 51 to 81. The team had a 25-second 1-5 split and a 10:27 2-mile average. The squad's tight compression helped them to pull out the win against Dakota Ridge, which had the stronger top three but had an overall 1-5 compression of 1:23.
Over the full 5K distance Mountain View has looked strong as well. At the Battle Mountain Husky Invitational on Aug. 31, they led the top three in scoring with Witt, Seth Rouse, and Jack O'Sullivan and scored a total of 21 points. They had a team five-man 5K average of 17:07 at 7,861 elevation and a 51-second 1-5 spread.
