No. 16 Lone Peak (UT)

Analysis: The Knights will be sneaky good, yet again, in 2019. With their top three runners back from last season, Lone Peak is dangerous up front. But the first, and primary, goal of the season will be to win a Class 6A championship. The squad was upset last year by American Fork, though there's a qualifier in that The Knights were without their top runner, Eliza Arrington. When healthy, Arrington makes this team capable of very good things on a state- and regional-level. A year ago, with Arrington in the lineup, Lone Peak was fourth at NXR Southwest.

Based on times from the 2018 season, Lone Peak would return with the fifth-best average of any team in the country for 2019, led by Eliza Arrington, Reagan Gardner and Eliza Mason. Personal best times from Hallie Kemp and Katie Bybee would give the Knights an 18:09.28 average and just a 67-second spread. So when Lone Peak is in full form, watch out.

Biggest question: Will Lone Peak race up to expectations?

At one point in 2018, the Knights went all the way up to No. 2 in the national rankings. But it was short-lived, as the team was unable to qualify for NXN. This fall, the squad has the potential to rewrite all those missed opportunties from 2018.
