No. 17 Saint Michael-Albertville (MN)

Analysis: This might be a season of deliverance for Saint Michael-Albertville. While the team's great breakthrough came last year came at the Class 2A state championships, when the Knights shocked the standard-bearers, Wayzata and Edina, for an incredible state title -- STMA beat Wayzata by five points and Edina by 17 -- the team still missed out on a bid to NXN after finishing third at NXR Heartland. 

Well, six runners from last year's team are back, and many of them are still just underclassmen. Ali Weimer is just a sophomore, and her experience goes deep: Two years of top 10 finishes at state. She's joined by sophomore Katie Sigerud, seniors Anna Belair Paige McAloon and junior Jessica Immer. STMA is ranked No. 10 based on times from 2018, with an average of 18:23.36 for 5K and a meager split of just 55 seconds. Unfortunately, success won't come easy. Wayzata returns its entire team from last year and Edina may reload. 

Biggest question: Can STMA upset Wayzata and Edina, and others, at the regional level? 

While STMA's goals are to win another state title in Minnesota, there's also that elusive bid to NXN that seems to be teasing them. Can the Knights win an NXR Heartland title?
