Analysis: Max is back with a chance to lead Summit to another national championship in 2019. But this time, Summit is no surprise, and neither is Max. The senior distance runner, who ran a personal best of 17:28.60 for 5K and won her first OSAA Class 6A state championship, has a firm bullseye on her back --- as does Summit -- in nearly every race she's scheduled for this fall. 

But that shouldn't tame Max one bit. She stepped up big when it mattered last year, finishing sixth at NXR Northwest and 11th at NXN. Her outdoor season went just as smoothly. She went a US No. 5 effort of 4:27.27 in the 1,500m and a US No. 16 time of 9:43.91 in the 3,000m. She also finished 13th in the full mile at Brooks PR, hitting 4:52.48 on the clock.

Max will be one of the top distance runners in the country for 2019-2020. The only question will be whether she'll lead Summit back to the top yet again.
