Nicole Payne, Charles Lewis Dominate Sprints At AHSAA Champs

53.55 seconds

This was Nicole Payne's last meet, best meet.

And it was truly a cap for the Oak Mountain High School senior's career, considering the 4-star soccer recruit is headed to West Virginia on scholarship to play another sport.

But how about a state record anyway? Payne, who also added wins in the 100m and 200m, beat the record of 54.04 in her last meet of the season, going a US No. 5 time of 53.55 seconds.

She was the only girl in Class 7A to break 12 seconds in the 100m (11.82, +1.3) and 24 seconds in the 200m (23.74, +2.3).

With three state wins, Payne finished her high school career with six outdoor titles, and four of which that came in the 400m dash across five seasons. She secured four more indoors, giving her eight across the indoor and outdoor seasons.
