Sagar & Mulhern Take Top 50 At NXN

Pennsylvania's contingent ran well at Nike Cross Nationals with a pair of girls placing inside the top 50.

Isabel Sagar of Loyalsock Township broke 18 minutes, placing 40th in the girls' race at Glendoveer Golf Course. Sagar, a senior and Harvard commit, clocked in at 17:58, a strong performance to close out the cross country season for the PIAA Class A champion. Sagar didn't flucuate much during the race, crossing the mile mark in 47th, before moving up to 37th at the 2 mile, and then coming home in 40th.

Not far behind was Jenna Mulhern of West Chester Henderson. The freshman, who ran to the PIAA Class AAA state crown in early November, finished 44th in a time of 18:01. That finishes up what has been a brilliant ninth grade season for Mulhern. She moved up in the field after coming through the first mile in 57th.

In the boys' race, Zach Kinne of North Allegheny ran 16:24 to place 122nd in the field. Earlier this season, Kinne led NA to the PIAA Class AAA team title with his second place individual finish.

A pair of former Pennsylvania runners led Loudoun Valley (VA) claim its second straight team national title. Carlos Shultz was LV's top finisher, placing 30th overall in 15:32. Shultz transferred to the VA school from Bishop Shanahan before the start of this fall. Sam Affolder, a senior, who ran his sophomore year at Carlisle, was 31st, right behind Shultz, in 15:33.
