South Florida Track Star Remembered as a Supportive Teammate

Daeshon Gordon, former Northeast HS class of 2014 hurdle star and Northwestern State University standout, died suddenly Sunday morning, according to NSU officials.

Gordon was a decorated student-athlete for Boyd Anderson and Northeast HS. In 2012 Gordon took home an individual state title for Boyd Anderson in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.37. That next season she returned to the state meet and claimed her state title in the 300m hurdles in a time of 42.16.

Following her high school graduation, Gordon went on to be a two-time All-American hurdler for LSU and then transferred to Northwestern State.

This past outdoor season, the Jamaican native, won the Southland Conference Outdoor Championship 400m hurdles in a time of 58.83 for Northwestern state.

The aspiring elementary teacher inspired the track and field community in Florida, Louisiana, and beyond.

"She definitely left a mark, not just on the track as an athlete but as a person, she made her own decisions and was genuine in how she treated everyone," said Plantation Heat founder, Dawn Spann, in a tweet Sunday night.

Gordon will be remembered as a supportive teammate, excellent athlete, and a genuine soul.
