The Scoop: Carmel's Suspenseful 1-Point Win Over FWC

Don't Sleep On The Edina Boys Just Yet

- - -

In a sneaky-good matchup on Saturday, the Edina (MN) High School boys took on up-and-coming Dowling Catholic at the Heartland Classic at Central College in Pella, Iowa.

It proved to be a compelling battle.

But Edina proved why it continually is one of the best teams in Minnesota, scoring a tight 57 points on a 53-second spread and 16:28 average to dispatch the Maroons, who finished second with 111 points.

Led by senior Max Manley, the Hornets positioned their first two in the top four places and then landed their top five in the first 21 spots, each runner navigating under 16:51 overall. With three seniors and one junior in its top five, Edina has the requisite leadership to run well and potentially continue on the arc it's routinely made for itself at the state championships and beyond.

But the Hornets shouldn't get too confident. Dowling Catholic is a fast riser in the Heartland Region.

And this likely won't be the last time these two teams face--both ran at the Roy Griak Invitational last year.

In the end, it was an important first touchpoint for Dowling Catholic, which is trying build its confidence and go after hardware this season in Iowa.

It wasn't a bad outing for the Maroons, either.

The squad scored its first three runners in the top 15 and put together a 61-second spread on a 16:44 average. The team scored its next three runners in the 35-44-47 positions.
