Team: Flower Mound, Texas
Analysis: Last year, Flower Mound had a rough UIL State Cross Country Championship finishing eighth. They bounced back in a big way, though, to win the NXN South Region team title scoring 77 points. That was partly due to the fact that they had one of their star runners, Alex Maier, back in top form. Maier was battling a sickness at the state meet which left him unable to finish the race. His teammate Jarrett Kirk stepped up in a big way winning the individual Class 6A state title in 15:02.60.
At the South Region meet, both guys were at the top of their game with Maier finishing second and Kirk finishing sixth. This year both guys will have to be running in top form again for the team to succeed. Although they return five of their top seven guys, Maier and Kirk are undoubtedly the glue that holds this team in the top 15. A potential stumbling block could be their 1-5 split of 1:28.90, which is one of the highest of any team ranked in the top 12.
