Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the 17-year-old wonder teen from Norway, made a huge move against a field of Olympians and distance heavyweights at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Thursday in Palo Alto, California, winning the men's 1500m in 3:39.06.
Ingebrigtsen kicked hard in the final 100m to beat US Army's Paul Chelimo (3:40.16), Nike Oregon Project's Eric Jenkins (3:40.28), Hoka One One's Colby Alexander (3:40.42) and Nike's Craig Engels (3:40.45).
Ingebrigtsen split his last 400m in 55.24 seconds.
It marked a new career best at the distance for Ingebrigtsen and currently stands as the 35th fastest time in the world according to the IAAF. It wasn't, however, a new age group world record at 1500. That time of 3:38.49 is still safe and was last achieved in May of 1999 by Kiyoharu Sato.
Ingebrigtsen owns the 1500m world age records at 11 years old, 14, 15 and 16. A year ago, he also set 16 year old record in the mile, producing a 3:56.29 at the Prefontaine Classic in June of 2017.
