York Nebraska's Mayson Conner was one of the top high jumpers this indoor season. 

It's going to be a down year for the boys high jump. Based on the returning list for 2018 and previous years, we might not see the bar as high as it has been over the past two years.

This is based on data from year's past. In both 2017 and 2016, there were a total of nine athletes each year who jumped over 7-0 heading into the season. This season there are only six guys who have jumped that height heading into the season.

On average, the number of guys who have jumped 6-4 or higher is up from years past, but the guys on the elite end who have jumped 7-0 or higher are down.

Last year, Yukon (OK) High's Vernon Turner had jumped 7-4.5.

This year the best mark is held by Plymouth High School's (IL) Nathan Patterson, who went 7-2 from last year's Midwest Prep Invitational. Indoors, he tied that PR at the Indiana Wesleyan HSR Qualifier II meet. In 2018, the average of guys over 6-4 or even 6-6 may be strong, but i...
