Simplot Day 2: Colorado Heads To Saturday's Big Show


Cherry Creek's Delaney Smith hurdled her way into Saturday's final in the 60 hurdles. 

The track is finally cooling off on the second day of the Simplot Games, but it was hot for most of the day. Colorado is sending a slew of qualifiers to Saturday's finals. Below is a quick rundown of how Colorado's best did heading into tomorrow's final day of competition. 

Colorado is sending three to the finals in the boys 60. Leading the Centennial state here was Korey Hairston with a 7.23. Right behind him was Sterling Brassfield and Ibro Soumah in 7.24. 

Arria Minor did what she does best in the girls 60. Minor cruised to a 7.50 qualify mark - the fastest of the field. Jaiden ParisMaya Provencal, and Syanne Algee will join her Saturday, having run 7.81, 7.93, and 8.03 to qualify. 

Leading the Colorado boys into the 60 hurdle final was Joel Nyatusah, who ran 8.26. Also booking their ticket to the final were Zaire Jackson in 8.30, Angelo Hurtado in 8.49, and Ian Gray in 8.55.

In the girls 60 hurdles, qualifying for Colorado was Delaney Smith, who ran 9.16, and Esth Diza-mbelolo in 9.29.

Deondre Ritter was Colorado's fastest qualifier in the boys 200, running 22.96. Jalen Lyon also qualified for Saturday's final, running 23.11, along with Ibro Soumah, who ran 23.17. Julyah Wilson was the lone Colorado qualifier in the girls 200, running 26.62.

Five boys qualified in the 400. Adam Stark led the charge, running 50.84. Not far behind was Brayden Hamby (51.44), Carson Ebersbach (51.59), Jason Farrell (51.76), and Kobe Christiansen, who took the final qualifying spot, running 52.08. 

For the girls who else than Minor to lead Colorado, and the entire field. Minor ran 54.25 -- nearly two-seconds clear of the field. Kyairra Reigh booked her ticket to the final as well, running 57.64, while Helen Maley ran 1:00.01, and Nina Kemp ran in for the final qualifying spot in 1:00.45. 

Five Colorado boys will toe the line for Saturday's final in the 800. Nick Nowlen dipped under 2, running 1:59.28 to qualify, while Phillip Thomas finished in 2:03.40, Eliott Cassidy ran 2:03.43, Jack Ball crossed in 2:04.15 and Isaac Orozco finished in 2:06.08.

Marlena Preigh came ready to race in the 800. Preigh led the field with a 2:19.19 qualifying mark, leading four more Colorado half-milers into Saturday's final. Lina Corrales (2:22.64), Abby Scott (2:24.01), Jordan McCurdy (2:26.22), and Shannon King (2:26.45).
