Great Southwest Looking Great

A strong group of Colorado athletes are headed south to the Great Southwest Indoor Classic this weekend. And if you can't make the trip - no worries - the meet will be live-streamed here! Additionally, Alan Versaw will be on the ground at this one for coverage.

Leading Colorado in the sprints is Korey Hairston. He'll be eyeing his first sub-7 of the season.

The boys mile will have Brock Helvey and Bryce Shirley. Based on the heat sheets, it appears that Helvey will be looking to get a W in New Mexico. Michael Long is the lone Colorado entrant in the 3,200 and could be a threat for the win as well. If all goes well, Colorado could sweep the mile and the 3,200.

In the shot Kain Medrano will look to continue his progress. Medrano is seeded No. 2 heading into the meet. Likewise, Max Manson heads into the meet as the No. 1 pole vaulter by nearly nine-inches. Will his first 17-foot vault happen in New Mexico? Only time will tell...

For the girls Colorado looks dominate in the 60 already. Arria Minor will continue her indoor campaign and be accompanied by Maya Evans and Dajaz Defrand. The trio have the top-three times entering the meet. Additionally, Sadie McMullen and Destiny Grimes should be in the mix as well.

The 200 looks similar, with Minor, Defrand, and Kyairra Reigh entered with the top three times. Minor holds the No. 1 time by over a second and will likely look to improve on her nation-leading 23.43 from last week.

And then there's the 400. Could Minor claim three events? It'll be worth a shot, because she's entered in the 400 as well, and holds the top entered time by over two-seconds. If Minor runs under 53.20 she'll hold three US No.1 marks. Reigh is in the event as well, along with Camille PeisnerKiona Gibbs, and Aliyah George. Colorado's got five of the top six entered.

Emily Sloan isn't on the start list as of Thursday afternoon, but Esther Diza-Mbelolo is in the 60 hurdles. The 800 has Bekah Moenning and Maggie Smith on the start list, while Lina CorralesSoleil Gaylord and Carley Bennett are in the mile. Gaylord is also entered in the 3,200 as the top seed.

Evans could take the long jump crown, as she's on top of the entrant list for the event. Additionally, McMullen is set to compete as well.

In the weight throw Valor's Joy Gerow is scheduled to compete for the first time since December, along with Amanda Opp. The Colorado duo could go 1-2 in the event.

Raina Branch is on the list for the high jump and could claim the event.

Colorado is loading up on the girls pole vault, lead by Mia Manson. She's a clear foot over the field, but the field is quite impressive. Hayley RayburnAbigail GrayLizzie Watersand Choying O'brien are all set to compete.
