One Of The Nation's Top Distance Recruits Brodey Hasty Commits To Oregon

Brodey Hasty, arguably one of the top boys distance recruits in the nation across the cross country and track and field seasons, committed to the University of Oregon on Saturday.

The Brentwood High senior, who finished second at Nike Cross Nationals on Dec. 2, also took visits to Northern Arizona, Stanford and Michigan. But the prized recruit decided not to sign during the early signing period from Nov. 8-15. Instead, Hasty took one last college visit after NXN.

He can officially sign with the Ducks on April 11, 2018.

Hasty remains an accomplished cross country and track athlete whose versatility could be his biggest strength. He could compete potentially anywhere from the 1500m to the 10K at the college level.

The Ducks are only getting richer. A year ago, Hasty won the New Balance Nationals Indoor 2-mile in 8:45.95, went 4:08.04 at Millrose in the full mile and also posted a 2:31.22 effort in the 1K at the VA Showcase.

He had an even better spring track season, becoming the third fastest junior to run the mile in 4:01.75 at the Music City Distance Carnival and won another national race at the Brooks PR 2-mile in 8:45.95.

While he ran unattached alongside his Brentwood High teammates this fall stemming from a fallout from his high school program, Hasty still put together a very good senior campaign, winning two invitational races featuring collegiate talent and NXR Southeast in a meet record 14:36.20 before finishing second at NXN.

He also posted a sub-9 minute 3200m at a Hoka Postal Nationals event on Nov. 21, just 13 days out from NXN.

He will eventually ink with an Oregon program that signed Josh Hoey during the early signing period and join a squad that features Cooper Teare and Reed Brown from the Class of 2017.
