1. Dustin Horter, Lakota East (OH), Senior

Dustin Horter's only loss of the regular season came from Buckeye Valley's Zach Kreft at the 2017 Midwest Meet of Champions. After that race, Horter didn't lose again until he placed sixth at NXN. He picked up wins at the OHSAA Ohio State Cross Country Championship with the fastest time of the day, the Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regional, and the 31st Mid-East Cross Country Championship

2. John Tatter, R.J. Reynolds (NC), Senior

John Tatter jumped on to the scene with a big early-season win at the adidas XC Challenge. After that, he several other big races, placing second at the Wendy's Invitational, first at the NCHSAA State Championship, and first at the Foot Locker South Regional. The Michigan signee finished off his season with a fourth-place finish at Foot Locker Nationals for the best boys finish ever by a North Carolin athlete at the championships.

3. Drew Bosley, Homestead (WI), Junior 

Drew Bosley, much like Graydon Morris, flew under the radar for most of the season. He silently picked up wins in his home state of Wisconsin including the state title. He shined bright when it was time to step up to the national stage. He took the win at the Nike Cross Nationals Heartland Regional, then placed 10th at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional. He finished off his season by placing seventh at both national meets. 

4. Jake Renfree, Knoxville Catholic High School (TN), Junior

Jake Renfree had some ups and downs throughout the regular season, but got the job done at the end of the year. He was only fourth at the TSSAA State Cross Country Championships but had a huge rebound to place eighth at the Foot Locker South Regional. Then again at Foot Locker Nationals, he had another huge race to place fifth amongst the nation's best.  

5. Carter Cheeseman, Fort Worth Christian (TX), Junior

Carter Cheesman had a strong season showing in his first season as a Texas cross country runner after making the move from Tennessee. The junior won the Keller HS Invitational and Southlake Carroll Invitational in Texas before going back east to compete in the Great American Cross Country Festival, where he placed seventh against some of the East Coast's best. After that, his next big races were wins at his state meet and NXN South, and a fourth-place finish at the Foot Locker South Regional. He placed sixth at Foot Locker Nationals and 36th at Nike Cross Nationals.

6. Conant Smith, Middletown (OH), Junior

Conant Smith came on to the national scene late in the game but made a huge impact. He had several regular-season wins though out meets in Ohio, and he really stepped into the light when he finished second to Dustin Horter at the D1 Boys Ohio State Meet by less than a second. After that, he finished third at the Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regional and went on to place eighth at NXN. 

7. Charles HicksBolles (FL), Junior

Hicks had a strong junior season. He started his season off strong with a second-place finish at the Spikes and Spurs Classic presented by FTI and ON and a win at the Bale-n-Trail Cross Country Original. His season really picked up momentum after his fifth-place finish at the Manhattan HS Invitational boys Eastern States race. After that, he won his FHSAA state meet, finished third at the Nike Cross Nationals Southeast Regional and ninth at NXN.
