Five Surprises From Nike Cross Nationals

Aidan Troutner Taking The Win

There was no doubt Timpview (UT) High senior and BYU signee Aidan Troutner was a strong runner, as he was ranked Flo50 No. 5 heading into NXN. He was the winner of NXR Southwest in 14:50.00. Still, this is one of the strongest fields of individuals and teams in the country. Both James Mwaura from Lincoln Senior High School in Washington and Brodey Hasty of Brentwood High were favorites and undefeated all year.

Troutner ran with excellent race strategy and kicked into gear at the ideal time to earn the win over some of the nation's best. His win keeps the individual title in the Southwest region after 2017 American Fork (UT) High graduate Casey Clinger won the title the past two years.
