Wonder Woman (Jahnelle Saunders) Wins AAU Pentathlon & You Won't Believe Her Times!

Soon to be Phoebus frosh, Jahnelle Saunders took home the AAU Junior Olympic Games pentathlon national title this weekend in dominating fashion. Wonder Woman, as she is called, took home this title thanks to her whopping score of 3438 over 550 points ahead of her closest competitor.

Her score was so dominating that she could have still won if she didn't even run the final even (800m).

The weekend started great for her after she opened in a solid 14.48 for the 100H, this was good enough for 912 points. She then jumped 16-6 in the long jump for an additional 578 points but was way off of her personal best. She came back strong though with a 5-5 high jump (795 points) and a monster 40-0 throw in the shot put for a new personal record and 674 points.

Finally she brought it home in 2:48.52 in the 800 to close out her five events with another 479 points.

For those unfamiliar, multi events are scored based on what the records are in each event on a progressive scale. The closer you are to a record the higher your score in an event. At this level a good basis would be the following.

Over 500 PointsOver 600 PointsOver 700 PointsOver 800 PointsOver 900 Points

Out of roughly 168 performances this weekend in the pentathlon only eight were over 700 points. Two of those were Saunders'. Wonder Woman didn't just have the best performance though with 912 points but also have the second highest with 795 points in the high jump.

She will be back in action later this week for the long jump, high jump, triple jump, and 100m hurdles. Her races and all the AAU races can be seen LIVE on FloTrack right here
