Around the Nation: US #1's a plenty

1/9-11/09  - Dartmouth Relays - Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 

For the second week in a row, Westerly, RI boys cranked a top DMR, but had to settle for the runner-up finish to a US #1 performance. Shenendehowa won the race in 10:24.41 to Westerly's 10:29.60. A week earlier at Brown, Westerly won the championship section of the DMR in a then US leading time, only to watch East Greenwich better that effort out of the unseeded heat.

Garden City claimed the girls DMR in 12:20.92. Shen was second in 12:33.19.

Another pair of NY teams battled it out in the girls sprint medley with Kellenberg prevailing over Colonie 4:15.70-4:15.74. Amity, CT took the boys SMR in 3:40.76.

Melissa Kurzdorfer (Lancaster, NY), 47-09, US #1 shot put.

Andrew Springer outdueled US #1 miler Omar Abdi to win the mile, gaining an inside track on a Millrose Invite.

Tiffany Harris (Churchland, VA) 19-10.75 long jump, US #1

 

1/09/09 - Southeastern Invitational - Boo Williams Complex, Hampton, VA

US #1 40-6.50 Triple Jump by Karmiah Shepherd (Grassfield, VA)


 1/9-10/09 - Arkansas Invitational - Randal Tyson Track Center, Fayetteville, AR

Lukas Verzbicas (IL), whose cross country season was cut short, crushed the national freshman class record, winning the mile in 4:15.43. The previous record was 4:21.20 set by Andrew Perkins in 2005.Verzbicas doubled back in the 3000, winning in 8:29.16 the second best mark in the nation this year.
New Bern (NC), cruised to a nation leading time of 3:19.28 in winning the 4x400 relay. Newburgh Free Academy (NY) owner of the previous best mark this season, a 3:21.33, was second in 3:21.38.
Also:
-Sophomore Nia Fluker (Christway Academy, TX) won the 400m in 55.98, US #3
-Stephanie Brown, who also claimed the mile, won the 800 meters in 2:08.41, US #1
-Wayne Davis II took the 60m hurdles in 7.79, US #1
-Ashley Collier (TX), sprints to a pair US #1's, clocking 7.54 in the 60 dash and 24.22 in the 200m

1/09-10/09 -  New Year's Invitational - New Haven T&F Center, New Haven, CT

 

1/09/09 - Montgomery Invitational - Prince George's Sports & Learning Center, Landover, MD

Senior Amanda Kimbers took the 55m dash in 7.05, best in the nation this season.
River Hill senior Katie Harman, the nation's leader at 3200 meters this season, continued her fine indoor campaign, claiming the mile in US top five performance of 5:07.32 in addition to winning the 3200.
-Eleanor Roosevelt girls won the 4x200 in 1:42.96.
-Western Albemarle senior Tyler Stutzman, making a bid for an invitation to the prestigious Millrose Mile, won in 4:14.91, US #2.
-Justin Gross (McDonough, MD) went 47-11.75 to claim first in the TJ.

Nijgia Snapp (Oakcrest, NJ) took the 400 meters in 55.4
