Vena (NJ) at it again; Bubniak (CT) national best 4:17.25 mile

National sophomore record holder adds state mark to his resume

Mooristown (NJ) super-soph Nick Vena did it again.

After claiming the national sophomore record in his season debut less than two weeks ago at the Lid-Lifter meet, Vena went one better, upping his class mark while setting a New Jersey state record with his heave of 67-8 1/4 to win the shot put at the Passarelli Inivitational at Drew University.

Vena's record, which came on his final attempt, bettered the state indoor mark of 66-9 1/2 set in 1988 by Kevin DiGiorgio.

The national indoor record is 74-11 set by Brent Noon of California in 1990.

In other news, Danbury senior Joey Bubniak, running unattched, won the mile in a US best time of 4:17.25 at the Boston University Mini meet on Sunday.
