Rebecca Story's 2017 debut in the 3200m Friday was everything she could have asked for.
Under the lights and against mild rain, the Christian Academy (Tn) of Knoxville junior scored a meet record of 10:15.85 to win the girls section at the Eastern Relays, which was held at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
It was Story's second fastest time of her career, challenging only her 9:59.85 at the Hoka One One Postal Nationals in November, and also landed her a US No. 6 time.
Six girls recorded times under 11 minutes, including Lexington Catholic (Ky.) High senior Michaela Reinhart, who posted a time of 10:25.26, and three went under the old meet record of 10:34.

Horter Goes Sub-9 In a Downpour
It was impressive that when the rain started to come down, the boys only got better.
Lakota East (Oh.) junior Dustin Horton threw down a personal record performance, running a season best of 8:56.62 -- his first time under 9 minutes -- to win despite aggressive conditions.
DuPont Manual (Ky.) High's Yared Nuguse was second in 9:06.44 and Olentangy Orange (Oh.) High's Hunter Moore was third in 9:14.84.
