Ultimately, he missed it by a hair.
Teare will have to wait for his next attempt after going a US No. 1 leading 4:00.16 to win the elite division and an automatic qualifier for the Brooks PR Invitational in June.
He became the 10th fastest high school boy to race the distance. The mark is also a PR for the University of Oregon signee, eclipsing his old mark of 4:06.60.
Teare, who last week went a US No. 1 leading 8:41.46 in the 3200m at the Arcadia Invitational, went through the first 400m in 59-high and followed in the half-mile at about 2:00.
He continued on the third lap at around 3:01 and needed a 58-second kick in the last 400m to clinch the effort.
"I'm definitely happy with it, it's a big PR," Teare said afterward.
Teare put out a tweet earlier this week on Monday looking for someone to take him through the 800m in 2-flat, and it looks like he got what he needed.

The performance is the most recent in a long string of top performances which include winning the Texas Distance Festival 5K back in March running 14:13.26, and running 8:41.46 in the 3200m at Arcadia to lead 25 guys sub-nine minutes.
