Holmdel Course Map

Voorhees senior Melanie Thompson and Kingsway junior Chelsea Ley have spent the fall winning races and collecting course records. For the second straight week, the New Jersey standouts collide.

Something has got to give.

Thompson held off Ley a week ago at Holmdel to capture the Girls Group 3 race at the NJSIAA Championships. But, Ley ran 17:44, the fastest time of the day and third fastest ever at Holmdel during the Shore Coaches Invitational in early October. The pair will be gunning for the all-time Holmdel course mark of 17:35.5 set by Janet Smith of North Edison in 1983. It promises to be quite a battle.

On the boy’s side, the showstopper is a battle of two nationally ranked teams. US #5 Don Bosco Prep and #15 West Windsor Plainsboro-North meet for the second time this year. In the earlier meeting, Don Bosco Prep finished first in the Eastern States Race at the Manhattan Invitational while WWP-N placed fifth. But the "other" Rosa twin, Jim, is healed and rolling, and so is his team as evidenced by it 16:24 team average, the best of the day at the NJSIAA Group Championships last weekend.

By comparison, Don Bosco Prep, unbeaten in the state of Jersey since the 2006 MOC, ran to an average of 16:41 a week ago, winning the Non-Public A race with relative ease.

Based on last week, Milburn's Tyler Udland heads in as the individual favorite, but Brett Johnson, Joe Rosa, Sean Pohorence, Jim Rosa, Robby Andrews and Doug Smith could all conceivable run away with the victory.
