The Scoop: World Junior Record Setting Weekend

1. Armand Duplantis shatters the World Youth Junior Record with a pole vault of 19 feet, 4.25 inches at the Texas Relays

It was only a matter of time before we heard from Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis, the Lafayette (La.) junior who's broken record over record over the last four months.

On Saturday, the Swedish international set a new World U20 Record at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with a vault of 19-4.25, beating the former best of 19-0.25 that was held jointly by Russian Maksim Tarasov and German Raphael Holzdeppe.

He set a new American high school outdoor record by nearly a foot, besting Chris Nilsen of Kansas City Park Hill, who successfully hit mark of 18-4.5 in 2016.

Duplantis' jump would have been fifth best in the world last year, FloTrack reports. It was also a Swedish senior record.

He won New Balance Nationals Indoor on March 12 at a height of 19-1 which presented an eight-inch increase from his first performance on Jan. 7.

But what's crazier is that at this time last year, Duplantis had opened his season at the Acadiana Ram Relays at a height of 16-6. It's normal for young and improving pole vaulters to improve dramatically. But an elite high schooler, reaching heights never been done before?

That's remarkable.
