Jamaica Champs A Preview For 2018 VA Showcase?

This past January St. Jago (Jamaica) took the historic leap and became the first squad to ever compete indoors from this island nation. They eventually finished a strong third place (1:39) in the 4x200 at the VA Showcase behind national powerhouses Western Branch and The Bullis School.

Though it was not the performance they wanted, it was a very solid showing considering it was the first time they had ever run indoors. Outdoor track though is a different story and this weekend thats all the entire island of Jamaica was talking about.

Annually the biggest meet arguably in the entire hemisphere is the Jamaican Boys and Girls Championships in Kingston. You know it is a big deal not only because it is track in Jamaica but also because it is hosted at their National Stadium.

Since none of the athletes go on to compete at New Balance Nationals, this meet serves as a great preview for the potential matchups and races at next year's VA Showcase.

Highlighting this year's competition and obviously are teams meet management will be inviting are:

  • Calabar Boys 4x100 in 39.43
  • Calabar Boys 4x400 in 3:08.76
  • St. Jago Girls (VA Showcase alum) 4x400 in 3:36.47
  • Edwin Allen Girls 4x100 in 44.50
  • Dejour Russell (Calabar) 110H in 13.31
