Lauren Harris of Sachem East (NY) opened the second day of New Balance Nationals Indoor by breaking her own national record in the mile race walk with a 6:53.44. At the same meet last year, she became the first girl ever to break the 7min barrier, either Indoors or Outdoors. Since then, she has broken the mark to win the Outdoor National Title, as well as setting the senior Indoor National Record earlier this year.
This is almost a four second PR for the senior who had a best of 6:57.36, set last year. The mark falls just short of her Outdoor best of 6:52.23. Harris took down the Indoor 1500m Record earlier this year, which converts up to around 6:40.00, proving she has room to improve outdoors.
