Saucony Flo50 Summer Training Blog: Jess Lawson

Week 5: 8/8-8/14

I had a good week of training this week as I was able to do two workouts this week and hit 40 miles. I was also able to work with my strength coach three times this week too which was great. I haven't been experiencing any discomfort as far as the hip flexor in about a month now so that makes me super happy.

(8/8) Today I did my first real XC workout of the season. The range was 6-16 hill repeats for 75 seconds at race effort and because it was my first workout I did 8. I felt really strong and the workout felt good which was nice. I'm very happy to be doing workouts again!

(8/9) 5 at 7:25 pace. I felt pretty good today and had no soreness from yesterday's workout. Also I got new shoes today! Whenever I get new trainers the run always feels so much more fun :) After the run we did circuits that were similar to last week and then did core work and stretched.

(8/10) This morning I did a lower body workout and abs with Coach Fiorillo. Then later I did a threshold mile workout, I started off with a 2 mile run at 5:55 pace , took 2 minutes rest and then did another mile at 6:00. Usually I would do a few more miles around that pace but since I'm still in the beginning of my workout phase I did the next 2 miles a little slower at 6:25 pace. After the workout I cooled down and stretched.

(8/11) I got up early and went to Coach Fiorillo's and did a tough upper body lift...whenever I go in the morning the lifts always feel harder but It was good to get it in. I got an easy 4ish in today...we were supposed to have a team practice but it Thunder stormed so my dad canceled but then my dad and I ran anyways.

(8/12) 10 miles at 7:12 pace. I ran with the guys team today on Catherine Valley trail and I felt really good.

(8/13) Another early morning lift today and I felt a little tired from the long run yesterday and my calves are sore from my new trainers but other than that I felt good. Easy 5 today, I waited too long to do my run so I only got 5 in which means I'll have to run tomorrow but that's ok.

(8/14) Nothing too exciting, today I just did an easy 3 miles around my house to hit mileage.
